some of you may have already seen these pictures, but for those of you who have not, this is a REAL human skull encrusted with REAL diamonds. british artist damien hirst's main theme in his art is death. he wanted to "laugh in the face of death" with this piece from 2007 titled "for the love of god."
the skull is covered in 8,601 pave-set diamonds weighing 1,106.18 carats! the large diamond in the center of the forehead is worth $4.2 million! it cost hirst $10-15 million to make and he sold it for $100 million dollars. in cash. now that is what you call a profit.

thats just really weird
i know, seriously. what sister in her right mind would want to paint her dead baby brothers skull??? you're so strange!!!
i like the theme of that..."laugh at the face of death". i wonder who's skull that is? and did the artist buy those diamonds himself?? this is crazy!!! oh and so are you chris...wtf???
couldn't he have spent a few extra dollars on replacing that missing tooth?
yes, he bought the diamonds himself. i believe he is the wealthiest living artist. and i wondered the same thing..who's skull is that and did they know it was going to end up being immortalized as art? that would be really freakin' cool.
